Event Details

On September 25th, Charleston Green Fair will be highlighting a different side of green at a "green" tie optional cocktail party at the beautiful South Carolina Aquarium. We will highlight local fine dining restaurants such as Hanks Seafood, The Library at Vendue, McCradys, Middleton Place, Wild Dunes, Good Food Catering and more, all who are using sustainable food practices in their menus. Beer, wine and specialty cocktails will also be included. We will also enjoy presentations by well known Lowcountry Visionary and Urban Developer, Vince Graham,http://www.iongroup.com/people/#vince_graham/; who will be discussing Urbanism Past and Present and Georgia Malki, president of Seven Star www.sevenstarevents.com. There will be musical entertainment throughout the evening.

In addition to promoting the Green Fair and raising awareness about the Green Initiative in Charleston, this event will raise money for two wonderful non-profit organizations Lowcountry Earth Force and The South Carolina Aquarium's Sustainable Seafood Initiative. Earth Force is a national organization, with a local Lowcountry Chapter that has been working for the past nine years to support youth driven, service learning initiatives that are designed to engage youth in both environmental and community problem solving activities. They work through local educators by collaborating with local school districts including Charleston, Berkley, Dorchester and Colleton Counties. With programs such as CAPS (Community Action and Problem Solving), Green (Global Rivers Environmental Education Network) and Earthforce After School, Earthforce is providing real ways for both students and teachers to get involved in Green Initiatives in Charleston. For more information on Lowcountry Earthforce and how you can make a donation or get involved in their organization please click here to view their website http://www.earthforce.org/section/offices/lowcountry.

The Sustainable Seafood Initiative is a conservation program of the South Carolina Aquarium which teaches chefs about sustainable seafood and how the decisions they make today can ensure that we have fish in the future. Sustainable Seafood refers to fish that are caught or farmed with consideration for the long-term viability of individual marine species and for the oceans’ ecological balance as a whole. In other words, sustainable seafood is fish for the future. The South Carolina Aquarium’s Sustainable Seafood Initiative’s restaurant partners have agreed to remove Chilean sea bass, orange roughy and shark from their menus until these populations are no longer in decline. We all work to support locally captured seafood that is environmentally sound and captured under current guidelines. These three fish were not chosen haphazardly but because of overwhelming scientific consensus. Charleston Green Fair is delighted to support the efforts of both Lowcountry Earth Force and The South Carolina Aquarium and The Sustainable Seafood Initiative.

So put on your favorite green cocktail attire and join us for an evening of fun, friends, great food, exciting entertainment. More importantly, learn more about the individuals and businesses making a difference to the green movement in Charleston.

Carolina Green Fair

Carolina Green Fair hosted over 5,000 eco-minded citizens at their Marion Square Main Event and at Finlay Park in Columbia in 2011. Our goal continues to be providing education and enlightenment to the residents of the South Carolina while promoting the local green businesses in our host cities.

The purpose of the Charleston Green Fair is to create excitement and enthusiasm for green products, services and technologies available to the residents of the Lowcountry using an environmentally responsible forum of education and entertainment.
